Biography of Adolf Tega

Adolf Tega was born in 1985 in Harare Zimbabwe.  He started doing art at an early age of 10 years inspired by his brother and other family members.

He did art all through his High School.  After high school he went to study art for 3 years at the national gallery of Zimbabwe where he focused on painting and sculpture. During his studies he discovered that his strength is in painting.  The inspiration came from the Almighty God.

His first exhibition was at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in 2007 when doors starting opening for him to start his career.

Artist’s Statement:

Adolf paints about his life; his work is about where he is coming from and where he is headed. As a strong believer in Christ, he feels that his work can inspire people because in it there is New Life. The texture of his work, brush strokes, the lines, together creates a magical inspiration that comes from the Almighty God.

As an artist he uses God’s nature as his inspiration in order to find a subject for his work. “When there’s a need to paint it almost feels the same way as a person would feel when they are hungry for food.” He has a goal of bringing something that has never been seen before to the art world. He believes that the imagery he uses must speak to the viewer and it should be images that most people can relate to; i.e. a chair to him means an empty house. Ostriches symbolize soldiers of God – or God’s army because they are self sufficient, although they can’t fly.

Adolf started painting from as far back as his high school days. He does not plan his palate but works in a spontaneous manner. He uses the traditional brush, palate knife, and his hands and then sticks found objects on his canvas which relate to the piece he is busy with. This can take months to complete. Unlike most artists his works are not inspired by past experiences.

He plans to work on much bigger works as he believes he has a big story to tell. He sketches onto the canvas and feels it in his soul when a work is finished. When people look at his work he wants them to see the love of the Lord and that Jesus is still alive.  The viewer must receive the message that Adolf does his work in order to build the Kingdom of the Lord. Adolf desires that after you see his work your life will never be the same again, that the viewer will be blessed and great things will come their way.

He joined Good Hope Art Studios (www.goodhopeart.org) in 2009.
